WEYL Girls

Basketball Sign-ups

West End Youth League Girls Basketball sign-ups for grades third-sixth will take place on Monday, Oct. 15 and Thursday, Oct. 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Pacific Pizza.

Bogachiel Garden Club October meeting

Bogachiel Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. at the Forks Community Center on Maple Ave. Guest speaker will be Billie Fitch, flower show judge and horticulture consultant. New members and guests are always welcome.

FOFA Fall Special

Friends of Forks Animals is offering a Fall Spay and Neuter Special. If you are low income and need help, call 360-374-3332 and leave a message. FOFA is offering cat spays for $10 and neuters for $5; and dog spays for $20 and neuters for $15.

Please join us at our weekly Chamber meetings. At the first meeting of the month, you could win a free lunch! The more meetings you attend the better your chances and an interesting program is presented at each meeting. A lunch special is offered or you can order off the menu. Meetings take place at Blakeslee’s Bar and Grill, 1222 S. Forks Ave., noon-1 p.m. and are open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

& Eat Gatherings

Do you love browsing cookbooks? Would you like a reason to learn to cook or try something new? Try out the new Read and Eat Gathering on the third Saturday of every month at the Forks Branch Library at 1 p.m and the third Monday of every month at the Clallam Bay Branch Library at 6:30 p.m. Each month, check out a cookbook based on the theme then prepare a yummy creation to share at the gathering. Come hungry and ready to discuss your chosen cookbook! Bringing your own place setting is also encouraged, but not required. The meeting schedule is as follows:

Disaster Preparedness group to meet

The next meetings of the West Jefferson Emergency Preparedness Work Group and the Quinault Amateur Radio Club will be on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Clearwater School at milepost 146 on US Highway 101. WJEPWG will meet from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and the radio club running from noon-1 p.m.

WJEPWG is being recognized as an aspect of any rescue plan in the event of an extreme weather, seismic or tsunami event.

The ham radio club is hoping to install its second repeater on Mount Octopus by early November creating the capability of running an emergency net which will practice protocols once a week.

More input from the local communities in West Jefferson County is still needed to fully incorporate citizens into the rescue and communications models so any and all are welcome to attend the meetings.

Voters West End Forum

Candidates for Clallam County District Court 2 Judge Erik Rohrer and John Black and Candidates for Clallam County Commissioner District 3 Bill Peach and Howard (Mike) Doherty, Jr. will face-off on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. at Peninsula College in Forks, 481 S. Forks Ave.

This event is free and open to the public. Those attending are encouraged to bring questions for the candidates.

Ballots are mailed Oct. 17 – Don’t forget to vote by Nov. 6!

FAFSA Financial Aid Workshop for Senior Parents

There will be a FAFSA Financial Aid workshop for senior parents on Oct. 11 from 6-7 p.m. in the Forks High School Library. Parents of current seniors are encouraged to attend with their students to begin the financial aid process. The financial aid officer from Peninsula College will be available to help start or complete your FAFSA during the workshop.

If interested please bring:

• Social security numbers of yourself and your student

• 2016 tax information and any other financial information.

SIORF Festival of Trees Coming Soon

Save the Date: Soroptimist International of the Olympic Rain Forest’s Festival of Trees “Christmas Through Eyes of a Child” is just around the corner. Mark your calendars for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1st & 2nd for the 22nd annual open house and auction fundraiser at the RAC.

Sponsors and Decorators: If you are interested in sponsoring or decorating a tree for this event please call Cathy Johnson 360-374-9382. Trees are $200 for a 6-foot tree and $100 for a 4-foot tree.

Raffle Tree

Club members will be selling tickets for “A Pioneers’ Christmas” tree. This specially decorated tree will be adorned with many handcrafted items and chockfull of gifts.

Tickets will be available from your local SIORF member, at the event, or watch for members at Forks Outfitters.

Wreath Sale

Time to order your wreath or garland to be delivered before Thanksgiving. 28” wreaths are $20 without a bow and $25 with. Garlands are priced by foot: 15’- $20, 25’- $25, 50’ – $45, and 75’- $65. Contact Diane Edwards 360-374-6490 or you local SIORF member to purchase a wreath.

Monday Musicale

Monday Musicale’s monthly meeting is Monday, Oct. 15 at noon at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church’s Fellowship Hall, 209 W. 11, Port Angeles.

The meeting will be followed at 1 p.m. by a free concert featuring David Jones Trio.

Monday Musicale meets the 3rd Monday of the month and proceeds from memberships are used to provide scholarships for local high school musicians.
