Mike Dukes has been selected for one of three 2023 Clallam County Community Service Awards, given by Sound Publishing (Forks Forum, Peninsula Daily News) and Soroptimist International of Port Angeles.
The first award was given in 1979 and the annual awards honor volunteers who devote their time and talents in serving their community.
Mike Dukes has been a Clallam Bay Sekiu Lion for almost 50 years, joining Lions in 1974. He has served the Club in most of its official positions. Mike has served as Zone Chair (Clallam Bay Sekiu, Crescent Bay, Forks, Port Angeles, Quilcene, and Sequim Valley). He was also District Governor serving almost 50 Lions Clubs on Vancouver Island and the north Olympic Peninsula.
As a Clallam Bay Sekiu Lion over the years, he has worked on many projects including: Firewood Distribution, Rummage Sales/Chili-Chowder Feeds, Fun Days Food Booth, Benches at the Sekiu Rock, Kid’s Fishing Derby, Friends of Hoko River State Park Bulletin Board/Orchard/Gardens, Beach Cleanups, Town Flags for special occasions, Community Tree Lighting, Vision Testing for School Children, and many more. Mike served for many years on our local Hospital Board and other advisory committees.
Lion Mike works tirelessly in many arenas to recruit and retain Lion members. More Lions means more community service in the Clallam Bay Sekiu area. He well deserves this recognition as a 2023 Community Service Award winner.
Community members are invited to the Award Ceremony Reception in Port Angeles on Thursday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m.
There will be refreshments and a program at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave, hosted by the Soroptimist International of Port Angeles.
