Drivers will continue to encounter intermittent 2-hour closures of US 101 at the Elwha River Bridge west of Port Angeles near milepost 239 this week. In addition to previously announced closures, crews also will require another total closure during the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 12
Exact times of the closures depend on work progress. Crews estimate the following times:
Revised closure schedule
Tuesday, Oct. 11 – 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 12 – 2-hour closure between noon and late afternoon.
Since the closure times could change, drivers may want to consider detouring via State Route 112 and State Route 113.
The Tuesday, Oct 11 closure will allow crews to move equipment between the bridge deck and the river for continued drilling operations. The Wednesday, Oct. 12 closure will allow crews to remove equipment from the riverbed.
The inspection followed erosion observed since the removal of the Elwha and Glines Canyon dams.
