Gold Star Families Memorial Monument committee members Michael Rowley and Mike McCracken along with several Forks Volunteer firemen participated in a “Fill the Boot” fundraiser Sunday in downtown Forks.
They were asking those driving by to place a donation in a boot they were each holding. They greeted traffic for about two hours and raised $1,288 to go towards the monument.
Also, Sunday morning the Park View Villas in Port Angeles held a benefit breakfast and raised $580 for the effort. The monument is a project of the Forks VFW and will be placed at the Forks Transit Center. The memorial monument will honor families who have lost loved ones in combat.
