Fire Destroys Mobile Home on Bogachiel Way, Investigation Underway

Last Tuesday morning, Aug. 13, 2024, Clallam County Fire Protection District #1 responded to multiple calls reporting a fire at a mobile home located at 380 Bogachiel Way. The calls came in around 6:29 a.m., and upon arrival, the firefighters found the mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Oberfranc, who was among the first on the scene, described the severity of the fire. “I could see the smoke from my house, and could tell it was bad,” Oberfranc said. About half of the department, roughly 15 firefighters, were involved in battling the blaze, with additional support provided by Scott Swagerty from the Three Rivers/Clallam County Fire District 6.

“It took us about three and a half hours to get it hosed down,” Oberfranc reported, noting that the firefighting efforts wrapped up around 10 a.m. The intense heat from the fire posed a significant risk to nearby properties, some of which were in close proximity, but the firefighters successfully contained the blaze, preventing further damage. Fortunately, no other properties were lost.

The mobile home, which had been boarded up and was unoccupied at the time, was completely destroyed. Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, the investigation has been handed over to the Forks Police Department. However, further details from the FPD were not available at the time of reporting.

Oberfranc said, “I would like to add my appreciation for law enforcement, and EMS crews as well as Clallam County PUD, for assisting the scene to run smoothly and efficiently. It allowed us to perform our duties well and focus on protecting exposures and keeping everyone safe!”
