FOFA meets Gemma and Gabby

Friends of Forks Animals had the pleasure of hosting Sherry Schaaf and her dogs Gabby and Gemma at their monthly meeting on Aug. 2.

Sherry rescued Gemma through the Golden Bond Rescue based in Portland, whose goal is to facilitate the adoption of golden retrievers and their mixes. Believe it or not, Gemma’s mother was a golden! Although her brindle coat may be deceiving.

Gemma came all the way from South Korea, where golden retrievers are considered a delicacy and are still being used in the food industry, although more and more people there are speaking out against it.

Gemma had a long journey to get here with many stops along the way for quarantines, a foster home and finally, a hotel stay with her forever human, but she is finally here! She is settling in at home with big sister Gabby, who is really quite thrilled to have a new housemate after the loss of her best pal Tally, who was also a golden retriever.

It was a heartwarming tale and Friends of Forks Animals would like to thank Sherry for taking the time to share it with them, and for introducing them to Gemma!

FOFA meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at the Forks Library in the Klahn room at 11 a.m. Annual membership is $20, P.O. Box 2022, message line 360-374-3332. New members and guests are welcome.

Please remember to adopt, not shop and to spay and neuter your animals!
