Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County and the Forks CORE Team would like to thank each and every one of you intrepid, soggy souls who came out on arguably the nastiest afternoon of the winter to attend our Artistic Door Reception at the RAC on Wednesday.
We had six beautiful and very different doors on display, from monochromes to complex scenes of nature, using techniques from old to ultra-modern. Landscapes, quilts, swirls of color and brightly colored birds all stood at attention to be examined. It was nice. It was relaxed.
People who braved the elements to get there made it feel like a real destination rather than a fortuitous drop-in before the picnic in the park. Artists representing four of the six doors showed up with friends and family in tow. Site leader Bill Terrill was there with house plans, a slide show and a willingness to answer questions. Colleen Robinson brought another slide show demonstrating all the things you can do with an upcycled door. Barb Gronseth poured the wine and monitored the brownies.
“How are you? I haven’t seen you since …” “You retired? Really? When?” “How close are the Goodings to getting in their new house?” “Oh look, the animals are pairing up out there.” All themes of the evening. The conversations went well with wine, sweets and laughter about how wet all of us were and how much the kids were enjoying the chance to run in that big space.
For those of you who didn’t make it out your door or your driveway, you still can see the doors. They are in the windows at the RAC for you to enjoy until March 31, when they will be taken to Sequim. They will be judged by an expert, given their awards and auctioned off in April at Habitat for Humanity’s annual bash, A Taste of the Peninsula. We hope you will come. For those of you who made the effort to come last Wednesday, thank you. Bless you. (Hopefully not in a sneezy sort of way.) You are winners — each of you. You keep us going and you give us hope!
