Forks City Council Members Sworn In

Forks City Council met for the first time for 2024 on Monday, Jan. 8 at the council chambers. District II Court Judge Bruce Hanify was on hand to swear in re-elected council member Jeff Gingell and newly elected council members Robert “Hickory” and Annette “Nettie” Grant.

There were no public comments.

In appointments for the new year, Clint Wood was appointed to the Clallam Transit System Board with Jeff Gingell as the alternate.

For the Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization Jeff Gingell was appointed with Public Works Director Paul Hampton as alternate.

A public hearing date was set for Feb. 12 for the West Waste Franchise Agreement renewal. City attorney/planner Rod Fleck shared that the agreement is basically the same as before with modifications regarding the handling of demolition debris.

In staff reports Caryn DePew City Clerk /Treasurer reported that the water billing had a software upgrade. Due to a glitch in usage calculation being omitted billing was to be sent again. There was to be an exit audit on Friday in the council chambers and Depew stated that she has been going over airport lease agreements.

Public Works Director Hampton reported his department had dealt with a water main break. Fleck reported he has been meeting with Clallam County Administrator Todd Mielke regarding finding additional funding/grant sources to help with the sewer upgrade. The project is $500,000 short. Fleck also shared that the transit center would see two new renters with month-to-month agreements. One will be Reflections Counseling Service and the other DSHS. Reflections will look to be open several days a week to see clients and DSHS will use the other space in the building to meet with their clients.

Police Chief Mike Rowley reported in an effort to reduce drug activity at the Tranist Center a new camera system will be installed. In addition to the cameras chemical sensors are also being added. Rowley said with the sensors and cameras detecting drug activity, individuals can and will be trespassed from the property.
