Forks Elks and Emblem Club members recently brought “Red Ribbon Week” to Forks Primary and Intermediate Schools.
The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23-31 each year.
“We supported the schools with the assistance of our National Drug Awareness mascot, Elroy,” said Red Ribbon Week organizer Lynne Barnes. During the week Elroy wandered through the crowds of students giving hugs and High 5’s, and handshakes.
Members of the Elks and Emblem Club explained what Red Ribbon week was and about why it was important. “We distributed red ribbons, coloring books, bookmarks, bracelets, and Red Ribbon information with the help of the Jr. High Prevention Club,” Barnes added.
Barnes shared, “We think this was a very successful interaction with the students and look forward to participating with them again next year.”
