Forks High and Middle Drama Clubs present Rock Around the Block: A 1950s Musical

Forks High School and Middle School Drama Clubs will present a family-friendly 1950s musical comedy “Rock Around the Block” on Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 8 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m. Tickets are free for children and students and $5 for adults.

Students in grades 5th – 12th have been preparing for the musical and are excited to present it to the community. You will be transported back to the time of poodle skirts and petticoats, saddle shoes and bobby socks, motorcycle jackets, and cool white t-shirts. You will see dances such as the hand jive, bunny hop, pony, and lindy hop! There is even a surprise musical guest… you’ll have to attend to find out who!

Dr. Marni Whitehead, a graduate of Forks High School and participant in FHS drama shows in the 1990s, is co-directing the musical along with Katherine Gingrich, FMS history teacher. Together they bring years of theater and choir experience to the show, helping to inspire a new generation of students to keep the arts alive.

“We are asking the community for some help. First, we are asking local businesses if they would like to sponsor the production (which includes an advertisement in our program). Gold sponsors are $50 for a quarter-page ad and Platinum sponsors are $100 for a half-page ad,” Whitehead shared. Sponsorships will help support production expenses along with providing local businesses with ad space.

The set is a 1950s-style pink and teal diner. Signs, soda shop-style appliances, 1950s diner chairs, and round tablecloths to complete the nostalgic look of the set are needed. If you would like to sponsor the drama club students through an advertisement or loaning of set dressing, please contact marni.whitehead@qvschools.org or call and leave a message at 360-374-6262 at ext. 443 (outside of school hours please).
