The Three Sisters of Clallam Art Gallery features weekly yoga classes. The sessions take place on Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. in the Sekiu Community Center.

Saturday, Aug. 10, instructor Su Kirk held the class in the gallery itself. A half-dozen people lay on mats, learning to relax their minds and bodies, before and after strenuous stretching and stamina exercises.

Kirk spent 200 hours in training to earn her yoga teaching certification from the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, in Tempe, Ariz.

Yoga emphasizes loosening the ligaments and joints of the body, she said, so it can continue to move easily regardless of age or activities.

“You want to have your spine flexible all your life,” said Kirk.

Local and tourist hunters and anglers attended the classes to get the kinks out from long days of traveling, fishing or paddling canoes and kayaks.

“(Yoga) gets all the kinks out,” nodded Kirk.

Kirk asks $2 per person per class. She said she uses the money to cover her gas costs from her home base in Forks.
