Wednesday Oct. 7

7:30-8:30 a.m. Rainforest Arts Center, 35 N. Forks Ave., West End Business and Professional Association will hold its weekly meeting at the RAC. The Pioneer Logger Award will be presented to this year ‘s recipient Jack Merrick. Everyone is invited. The first Pioneer Logger Award was given to Lawrence Brager in 1981. The award recognizes an individual’s contribution to the timber industry. Past recipients have included not only loggers and logging company owners, but mill workers, truck drivers and the many other forest professionals that have had a hand in the harvest in some way.

Those attending also will have an opportunity to view a short film “Sheldon Remains.” It was filmed in Forks and is “a delightfully desperate film about the late coming-of-age of an injured logger and his over-protective mother.” It was directed by Corbin Frost.

3-6 p.m. Rainforest Arts Center — Old Timers Roundtable, book signing and slide presentation by Jack Zaccardo and Larry Burtness.

Alway enjoyable, local historian Jack Zaccardo’s slide presentation will welcome those attending to share memories before, during and after the presentation.

Also in attendance will be local authors with their books on local history. An added feature, hopefully, will be the debut of the second addition of the “Logger Memorial Book.” The committee has been working hard to make a few copies available for this event, if not ready in time books will be available at The Fish and Brew on Saturday. This event is sponsored by the Forks Timber Museum.
