The Forks Old-Fashioned 4th Horseshoes Tournament was held at 9 a.m., Saturday at Tillicum Park in Forks.
There were 56 players this year throwing shoes on a pleasant overcast morning which turned to a beautiful sunny afternoon.
The winner’s bracket had a nice mix of new and older faces, some of which have been participating nearly every year since the late ’80s! The team of Dalton Kilmer and his grandpa Floyd McCoy emerged undefeated awaiting the final match.
In the losers bracket, the team of step-brothers Troy Pearce and Wade McCoy had to win 7 straight matches including one against defending champs Carl Windle and Jr Dean in order to win the losers bracket and set up the championship match with Kilmer and McCoy.
In the championship, Pearce and McCoy gave Kilmer and McCoy their first loss thanks to back to back to back double ringers forcing the “if needed” rematch for the title.
In the title game, Pearce and McCoy remained hot jumping out to a nice lead before Kilmer and McCoy began their heroic comeback to win the championship by a score of 21 to 14.
The win avenged a title match between the same two teams in 2017.
Kilmer and McCoy claimed their first title as a team and the top prize of $200.
Many thanks to the City of Forks maintenance staff for prepping the pits as well as those who helped set out and pick up the equipment.
