Horseshoes Tournament Results

By Wade McCoy

The Forks Old-Fashioned 4th of July Horseshoes Tournament was held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Tillicum Park in Forks.

This year there were 38 players throwing shoes under beautiful blue skies during day three of the first heat wave of the year.

The winners bracket saw some newer teams making a run building their rep but by the afternoon only the team of Scott McNutt and Bryson King remained undefeated.

In the losers bracket the team of Floyd McCoy and grandson Dalton Kilmer avenged their earlier loss to stepbrothers Troy Pearce and Wade McCoy to win the losers bracket and set up the championship match with Scott and Bryson.

In a back-and-forth title game, Floyd and Dalton edged out Scott and Bryson 21-19 to force the if-needed rematch as that was their first loss of the day.

The rematch was a bit more one-sided as Floyd and Dalton won the championship 21-6.

Floyd and Dalton claimed their third title as a team and the top prize of $200 as well two giant trophies donated by Mark Raben.

Many thanks to Mark for the trophies and the City of Forks maintenance staff for prepping the pits as well as those who helped set out and pick up the equipment.
