A Neighborhood Watch meeting was held by the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department at the Clallam Bay Library on Tuesday, Jan. 24 with 27 residents attending.
In attendance from the Sheriff’s Office were Sgt. King, Sgt. Pieper, Deputy Cortani, Code Enforcement Officer Mark Butler, Community Policing Volunteer Al Camin and event organizer Clallam County Sheriff’s Office’s Community Patrol Services Coordinator Lorraine Shore.
Shore said the aim of the meeting was to make Clallam Bay/Sekiu safer communities. She said there was interest in holding a Map Your Neighborhood Meeting in the future. Map Your Neighborhood is a 90 minute class designed to organize residents to respond in the first hour of a disaster when lives can be saved by quick action. Neighborhood Watch signs are placed in windows of homes, along roads and in other locations and are an inexpensive crime prevention tool and have proven to deter crime, Shore said. The Clallam County Sheriff’s website provides a wealth of information and many residents are very interested in our Anonymous Tip reporting feature that allows residents to report suspicious activity online. Additional programs that are of interest to many residents are Project Lifesaver, Nixle and the Cell Phone Bank where we collect used cell phones that are recycled and provide free emergency cell phones to seniors and victims that cannot afford them.
