On March 31, at 1:12 p.m. while conducting a routine inmate welfare check, Clallam County Corrections Deputies discovered a 34 year old male inmate hanging inside his housing unit. Deputies immediately summoned assistance and cut the ligature from the inmate’s neck. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation was initiated and Medical Aid from the Port Angeles Fire Department was on scene within minutes of the call for aid.
Upon arrival of Port Angeles Fire Department, Paramedics took over care of the patient and continued resuscitative efforts. The patient was provided emergency transport to Olympic Medical Center where he remains in guarded condition and treatment is being provided.
Prior to discovery of the patient Corrections Deputies had last checked on the inmate at 12:20 p.m. during the noon meal feeding process when the inmate took his lunch tray. Clallam County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Multi-Agency Investigative Response Team (MIRT) to assist with the investigation of the circumstances surrounding this event. The MIRT is a program consisting of area Law Enforcement Agencies who provide investigators to assist with complex or sensitive cases.
