Key dates approach as school year nears

Classes begin next Thursday, Sept. 5, at Quillayute Valley School District, and a number of key dates are coming up for parents and students to take note of, said Superintendent Diane Reaume.

An open house for Forks Middle School is scheduled from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4. An open house at Forks Elementary is at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26.

Students will be released from school early Sept. 11, 18 and 25 to allow time for staff training. At the middle school, high school and alternative school, students will be released at 2:15 p.m. Elementary school students will be released at 2 p.m.

Bus routes have not changed from the last school year. Reaume advised parents who have moved to notify the district office to arrange for a new bus route. For more, call the district’s Transportation Department at 360-374-6262, ext. 153.

The fall athletic season begins with a girls soccer match against Adna in the stadium at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 14, the football team hosts Nooksack Valley in an afternoon game at 2 p.m. and the volleyball team hosts Neah Bay in the Spartan Gym, with junior varsity play beginning at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:30 p.m.

For more information, including specific questions about student needs, Reaume urged parents to contact their children’s school or visit the district’s website: www.forks.wednet.edu.
