Sixth Congressional District Democrat candidate Derek Kilmer (center) made a campaign visit to Forks on Sunday, Oct. 14. Here Kilmer meets with City of Forks Attorney/Planner Rod Fleck and Ozette-based veterans advocate Ed Bowen (right). Kilmer, who grew up in Port Angeles and is now a state senator from Gig Harbor and works in economic development, held a conference at the Forks Community Center that focused on veterans issues. Kilmer told the Forks Forum he supports having the state Department of Natural Resources be more aggressive in managing state forests that produce revenue. He said he saw first hand what cutbacks did to the logging industry on the North Olympic Peninsula and added he is not a proponent of the Wild Olympics plan, a program championed by long-time 6th Congressional District Congressman Norm Dicks (D) who is retiring after 36 years in office, opening up his seat for a run by Kilmer and his Republican challenger Bill Driscoll. Driscoll recently addressed the Forks Chamber of Commerce.
