Forks Police Administrator Rick Bart and Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict shared the stage at Forks Chamber of Commerce meeting last week.

Benedict was up first and spoke of Darold R. Stenson, who was sentenced to consecutive life sentences for killing his wife and business partner. The case and multiple appeals, Benedict said, has cost the county more than $1 million.

Benedict admitted he learned a lot from the community at a November town hall meeting that was held at the Forks Elks lodge. He spoke of the shift in crime trends from violent crimes to a huge rise in property crimes. 

When Bart took the floor he thanked Mayor Bryon Monohon for his support and said that his department is making progress with some of the town’s serious crimes.  

He said he hopes to get a message to drug dealers that they are going to be hurt financially if they get arrested selling drugs in Forks.

The two shared some question and answer time with the capacity crowd at JT’s Sweet Stuffs, and talked a bit about the Chief-for-a-Day program that offers a child with a chronic illness the opportunity to act as a lawman for a day.
