Master prop maker Jim Taylor is working on opening what he’s calling the Magic Adventures Amusement Arcade.
You can’t miss his latest project. Just look for the bright pink building a few doors down from the South North Garden Chinese Restaurant on Sol Duc Way.
He is seeking conditional use permit approval from the City of Forks to open an indoor miniature golf course, amusement arcade and video game arcade at 120 Sol Duc Way, in the former West Wind art gallery location.
The 2600-square-foot main building would be open year-round, Taylor told the Forks Forum.
The former Southern California resident is best known in Forks for his work on the Twilight-themed displays in the storefront windows and interior of the now-shuttered Dazzled by Twilight store, and for turning the Forks Elks Lodge’s main room into a detailed, very scary Halloween season haunted house.
Taylor has an extensive background in prop design and creation, and worked for Disney in the mid-1970s.
The Forks Zoning Code requires that a business with coin-operated games, rides, selling food and other related activities must receive a conditional use permit for the business before opening its doors to customers.
A public hearing on the permit application for opening the Magic Adventures business in the leased building is scheduled for Thursday, April 19 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Forks City Hall.
Written comments can be sent to the City of Forks in advance of the hearing.
The Forks Planning Commission has a 21-day window following the hearing to either issue the permit, or deny it. If approved, use conditions may be applied to the conditional permit “for the purpose of fulfilling the Forks Comprehensive Plan,” according to the legal notice announcing the hearing.
