The Makah Museum is excited to announce the upcoming celebration of its 44th Anniversary on Saturday July 1, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This milestone event promises a day filled with cultural appreciation and community engagement.
The Anniversary Celebration will feature pop-up shops showcasing the talents of Makah artists. Over 20 vendors will offer a diverse range of handmade items, including carvings, basketry, jewelry, drums, beaded items, baked goods, and more. Visitors will have the opportunity to support local artists by purchasing these unique creations. The pop-up shops will be situated on the grounds of the Makah Museum.
The artists and vendors will retain 100% of their earnings from their pop-up shops, which underscores the Makah Museum’s commitment to fostering the local creative community and encouraging economic sustainability for artists.
As part of the festivities, attendees will have the chance to engage in the rich cultural heritage of the Makah tribe through traditional storytelling. Renowned storyteller Steve Jimmicum will tell stories at 1:00 pm in the indoor longhouse. This storytelling session will offer a glimpse into the timeless traditions and wisdom of the Makah people.
