On Wednesday, Jan. 18 at approximately 10:16 p.m. Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies arrested without incident Carlo Stubbs, 24, of Sekiu at his residence following a robbery at Ray’s Grocery convenience store located at 7621 Highway 112, in an area east of Neah Bay and west of Sekiu.

The arrest came following a robbery allegedly made by Stubbs at the Ray’s Grocery.

A Clallam County Sheriff’s Office press release reported: “Earlier the day of Jan. 18, at approximately 7:55 p.m. deputies were dispatched to the business after receiving a 9-1-1 call from a neighboring resident reporting the store’s owner had fled the store to the reporting party’s house after being threatened by a customer with a knife.”

The report said deputies arrived at the crime scene. They “learned from the store owner that Stubbs, who was a frequent customer, had entered the establishment stating that he had no money. He proceeded to select a case of beer from a display stack and asked the store owner if he could have it.

After being told he needed to pay for the beer, Stubbs obtained a paring knife from the store’s deli. According to the store owner, Stubbs then held up the knife and threatened to stab her.”

At a residence above the store deputies found the paring knife and several empty cans of beer in the owner’s apartment which is part of the same building as the store.

Law Enforcement officers from the Washington State Patrol and Neah Bay Police Department also responded to the scene to assist deputies. 

Stubbs was booked into the Clallam County Jail on charges of Robbery in the First Degree, Burglary in the First Degree, and Theft in the Third Degree.

Coincidentally, the robbery comes three years to the day when Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Cortani of Forks was shot during an investigation of a beach vacation home break-in in the same neighborhood.
