Monohon made the announcement to the City Council on Monday evening, Jan. 10 during the biweekly council meeting.
Price retired from the Washington State Patrol about five years ago.
He said he planned to introduce Price to the community at the weekly meeting of the Forks Chamber of Commerce held at noontime at JT’s Sweet Stuffs.
Monohon said the City of Forks had put Price through an extensive background check over the past few weeks. “We put him through the wringer,” Monohon told the council, including a polygraph test on New Year’s Day.
Price is scheduled to join the Forks Police Department on February 1.
Monohon said it is likely Price will move to Forks.
The three other candidates for the job, including acting Forks Police Chief Lloyd Lee, were notified about two weeks ago of the decision to hire Price. Monohon said word that Price was his choice was known by some in the community due to the extensive background check undertaken, which included interviews with law enforcement officers who worked with and knew Price during his years as a Washington State Patrol trooper. Those years included patrolling in Forks and the West End.
Price’s resumé, handed out in mid-November when he and the other three candidates for the job appeared before the council, states he has 27 years experience in law enforcement.
Monohon said Price scored the highest of all candidates on over three dozen rating sheets turned in by the council and community members.
