Hello, Forks! This is Elizabeth, and, I know I haven’t written in a while, but it’s because I have been really busy! Guess what? I’ve got big news for you guys: I’m going to be in a pageant! Typically, pageants are for girls to show how beautiful and fit they are, but the one I am going to do is all about preparing girls to go to college.
Because of Covid, a lot of pageants don’t have traditional state pageants anymore, instead they are done on-line and by referral. I was crowned Miss Washington Jr. High School USA 2025 without even
stepping on a physical stage, which is kind of weird. That means that the National pageant will be my first traditional competition. Yep! You heard that right! I’m going to Nationals!
My title is part of the Miss Collegiate USA pageant system. This pageant system has the platform of “Making College Affordable: Reducing Student Loan Debt.” It helps prepare young girls for college and helps older girls learn about the finances of going to college. The prizes, are a college scholarship along with a bunch of other things. But clearly, it’s all about the college scholarship!
Aside from competitions there is a lot of other activities at a national pageant. There is a College Finances Class and a Mental Health Class. (And guess what? I was picked to be one of their Empowered Mental Health Ambassadors! More on that in another article later!) There are also lots of fun side contests like Media Correspondent (journalism), Social Media Guru, Academic Achievement, Volunteerism and Sisterhood (congeniality). There is even a Bridgerton-themed Tea Party where we get to meet each other.
Nationals will be held in July, 2025 at College Park in Washington, D.C. Guess what else? I get to help make the referrals for Miss Washington High School (a current high school student), Miss Washington Collegiate (18-29 and a current or former college student), and Ms. Washington (25-40 and a current or former college grad student). If you’d like to be a Miss Washington and go to nationals with me, you can email my mom at athenagraeme@gmail.com for a referral to the pageant. Let’s make a clean sweep for Forks!
