Hickory Shirt Heritage Days activities will continue this week and next, with the following activities:
Oct. 11-The 89th Annual Congregational Church Harvest Dinner will take place at the church, on Spartan Ave., from 4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. The menu will include turkey and all the trimmings, baked salmon, green beans, salads, beverages, and apple and pumpkin pie. The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children 4-12 years of age and seniors over 60.
Also on the evening of Oct. 11 Forks (1-0, 2-3) hosts Adna for Homecoming at Spartan Stadium at 7 p.m.
On Oct. 11 and 12 step back in time and explore Olympic Peninsula logging history. Watch a narrated video presentation with historic photos and enjoy speaking with other attendees. Refreshments provided.

The recently voted Best Band on the West End, the Richwine Road Band, will offer live music at Blakeslee’s Bar and Grill, 1222 S. Forks Ave., on Saturday evening Oct 12.
On Sunday, Oct. 13 from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Forks Forum will sponsor the annual Little Logger Contest at the pumpkin display at Forks Outfitters. All little loggers will get treats and a random drawing will select three winners for cash prizes. Also, an attempt will be made to get a group photo.
Tuesday, Oct. 15 West End Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at the Congregational Church at noon. WEHS holds a large number of historic local photos and a slide presentation of some of them will be shared. Everyone is welcome and lunch is available for $8.
Wednesday, Oct. 16 is “Wear Your Hickory Shirt Day.” At the morning West End Business meeting, 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m., at the Congregational Church, the Pioneer Logger Award winner will be announced. At noon go back in time to enjoy a Lonnie Archibald video of Hickory Shirt Day 1985 at the Forks Chamber of Commerce meeting. The Chamber meeting runs from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Blakeslee’s Bar and Grill, 1222 S. Forks Ave. Lunch is available for purchase.
On Friday, Oct. 18 the Eighth Annual COAST MRC River & Ocean Film Festival will take place at the RAC, 35 N. Forks Ave., in downtown Forks. Enjoy film explorations of our rivers and oceans, doors open at 6:30 p.m. Films start at 7:30 p.m.
The film festival is sponsored by the North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee with the support of Washington Sea Grant, and celebrates the freshwater and marine environments of the West End of the Olympic Peninsula.
This event is free and family-friendly.
And …on Saturday, Oct 19, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. – The West End Maritime Heritage Symposium – 2024
Join us as we share information on various maritime heritage projects and topics on the Olympic Coast. Maritime heritage is a broad legacy that includes not only physical resources, such as pre-contact archaeological sites and historic shipwrecks, but also archival documents, oral histories, traditional seafaring, and Indigenous knowledge.
This event will take place at the Rainforest Arts Center. RSVP is preferred but not necessary. If you do not RSVP, you may need to get lunch on your own.
