A little about the Performers
Penelope Thornton Linterman, Violin – Penelope Linterman has been teaching violin and viola for more than 40 years. She is a practitioner and instructor of the New Approach pioneered in this country by Kato Havas, in the 1970s. This method releases tension in the player and promotes working with the natural balances of the body and instrument to promote optimum musicality and tone production. Penelope holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Pacific Union University in Angwin, Calif. and has taught hundreds of beginners and advanced players. Her favorite student is the adult beginner or adult returning to playing after a long hiatus.
Marlene Moore, Cello – Cellist Marlene Moore is an unusual combination of rich, passionate sound supported by the technique to provide a wide range of tonal color. She is a tiny package who puts out a powerful sound that is elegant and thoughtfully conceived causing one’s imagination to see glimpses of beauty and peace seldom contemplated.
Born in Europe to traveling musicians, she grew up in a household surrounded by evening musical soirees. Her earliest memories are of straining to listen through the heating grate to the musical adventures occurring in her family’s living room downstairs.
Gary McRoberts, Piano – Gary began his musical studies at the age of four in Michigan. After his parents moved to California he resumed piano lessons with Charles Galloway at age 6. At the ripe old age of 8, he began playing seven services a week in his father’s church. This continued until he was 18 and took a job with another denomination. Further study was with June Lusk Nelson, Julian Musafia, and Laszlo Lak. He completed his BA in Piano Performance, a Master’s in Musicology, and a DMA in Conducting.
