For safety’s sake, the Olympic National Park has closed the Hoh Rainforest Visitor Center and campground for the day, today, Friday, June 17. An aggressive female elk has been spotted in the Upper Hoh area in the general vicinity of the visitor center. ONP Park Ranger Bill Rhode said the elk cow may have dropped a baby elk and is being protective of it. He said it is common for elk to become aggressive this time of year, a season when they normally give birth. Rhode said the situation will be reassessed on Saturday to see if it is safe to reopen the facility located south of Forks.
