Neah Bay Elementary School received the Title 1, Part A Award from the state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, one of 15 schools in the state to receive the award for improvement and performance on state standardized tests.

The school will receive $11,775 from the state along with the title.

Principal Alice Murner credited staff and parents for pushing students to exceed state standards in all eight tests.

The school has not yet determined how money will be spent.

Neah Bay third-graders outscored state averages in reading, 83 percent passing to 73 percent, and math, 70 percent to 65 percent.

Fourth-grade scores were 91 percent passing reading at Neah Bay, compared to the statewide average of 72 percent passing. In math, 70 percent of Neah Bay fourth-graders passed, to 63 percent statewide, and in writing 91 percent of the school’s fourth-graders passed, up from the 62 percent state average.

Fifth-graders passed reading with 77 percent, over the 73 percent state average; math 77 percent versus 63 percent, and science 77 percent vs. 67 percent.
