Neah Bay Elementary Schools was one of 55 elementary schools in Washington named a 2013 School of Distinction by education think tank Center for Educational Effectiveness.

The designation means Neah Bay was in the top 5 percent of schools across the state in student progress over the past five years, based on standardized exams administered by the state Office of Public Instruction.

In the 2012-2013 school year, more than 90 percent of Neah Bay’s 130 students met or exceeded standards in the state tests.

That’s a marked improvement over 2004-2005, when less than 30 percent of students met the standards.

Sequim School District’s Greywolf Elementary also earned the designation, the only other school in Clallam County to do so.
