Local artist and entrepreneur Vern Hestand has relocated his business, Olympic Artforge, to the Almar building at 120 S. Forks Avenue, where he’s creating a vibrant new space for art, design, and community. After years of working in various creative fields, Vern has settled in a centrally located storefront to offer graphic arts, web design, tech repairs, 3D printing, and a variety of other services tailored for both locals and tourists alike.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, from 5-7 p.m., Vern will host a Grand Reopening at his new location, complete with refreshments, snacks, and tours of both the new art gallery and manufacturing area. Visitors will be treated to a display of local artwork by talented artists such as Laura Malakoff, Carol Simons, Ines Epperson, and Flora Finley, as well as photography from Nora Alwarth, all inspired by the unique beauty of the Olympic Peninsula.
“I want this to be a welcoming space where people feel comfortable,” Vern shared, reflecting on his vision for the gallery. “There will be a little seating area to take a load off, and being right downtown gives me a front-row seat to what’s happening.”
The gallery will not only showcase Peninsula-inspired art but will also offer custom-made items, such as posters, business cards, flyers, logos, signage, and even photo restoration services for old, faded, or damaged photographs. Vern’s workshop, located behind the gallery, will be a hub of creativity, producing everything from stickers to murals to woodcarvings. Many items made to order.
Looking ahead, Vern has big plans for Olympic Artforge. He’s already envisioning murals throughout town, starting with one on the side of the Almar building. He hopes to partner with local businesses and the school, getting students involved in creating art that reflects Forks’ rich history and natural beauty. He’s even planning to launch an “Artist of the Month” program, inviting local creators to share their stories and inspirations with the community.
“Each artist has a unique perspective, and hearing what inspired them helps people connect more deeply with the art,” Vern said. “I also want to provide visitors with something special, like a professionally done photograph of a place they’ve visited, such as the Tree of Life at Kalaloch, so they can take home a memory of their trip.”
For Vern, Olympic Artforge isn’t just a business—it’s a family affair. His son, Phoenix, has joined him in running the shop, helping with the technical and creative aspects of the business. Together, they’re working to make Olympic Artforge a place where art, craftsmanship, and innovation come together.
With plans for spooky Halloween displays, custom items on Etsy, and even more community art projects in the future, Olympic Artforge is hoping to become a gathering place for artists and art lovers alike. Vern’s dream of creating a welcoming, gallery-style atmosphere complete with proper lighting, aromatherapy, and original artwork is well on its way to reality.
Olympic Artforge is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information or to inquire about services, contact Vern at (360) 780-3435 or visit olympicartforge.com.
