Quileute Days Parade and Father’s Wish Completed

It was a fun Quileute Days Parade! Apologies that we just entered the 4th of July Suburban and not the float …I can’t back up a float or any other backing-up devices … so it is a good thing that we didn’t take it because the first thing I had to do once we got to La Push …was back up.

Getting ready the day before was a challenge since the float was still connected to the vehicle and there was other backing up involved but Mayor Fletcher came to the rescue and did the backing up.

The parade at La Push is candy-mandatory for participants so I got most of what was left of the taffy at Outfitters and then figured I needed more so I selected two bags of a mix of Reeses, Hershey bars, peppermint patties, and KitKats, the selection was a hit!

But prior to the parade we had to get there …my co-pilot and passenger-candy thrower was Lissy from the Forks Chamber …on the way down just over the Bogachiel Bridge my co-pilot shrieked and pointed. So in a panic …I hit the brakes …In the Pacific Northwest, a shriek and a point means …the road is washed out, an animal is crossing the road or Bigfoot has been spotted …well it was none of those it was a Tesla cyber truck. I informed her to stop it!

In the old Suburban, we had to follow the Tesla that was going to Quileute Days and was going quite slow! The people in the Tesla were probably shrieking and pointing …look at that old Suburban!

A Father’s wish …completed

In June I wrote about the grave of Christopher Rollins and his sister Amey’s efforts to get a marker on his grave. Her father was aging and the lack of a marker and even the problem of not knowing exactly where the grave was weighed heavy on him. Christopher died in March 1980 at the age of 6 months and at the time the family could only afford to plant a shrub. The family had moved from the area shortly after.

Last week I finally connected with Mike, the Forks Cemetery caretaker, and told him a marker had been sent to me and …how do I get it placed? The next afternoon Mike placed the marker next to the 44-year-old shrub. Mike even shared that for years he has shaped and carefully taken care of the shrub …which is a Juniper. I emailed photos of the process to Amey and she and her father plan a trip to Forks soon.
