The Quillayute Valley School District is excited to announce its grand opening for the new Spartan Stadium on Friday, April 14, at 5 p.m. prior to the Forks High School Boys’ Soccer game against Eatonville.
“We will be dedicating our new stadium after a long-awaited time,” stated Diana Reaume, Superintendent.
The board has met its goal of finalizing Phase One of the Stadium Replacement Project which included the demotion of the old stadium, civil and electrical engineering, building of the new stadium (an 1137-seat modular steel and aluminum structure with a heated three-room press box) and heated ticket booth, signage, and site improvements such as fencing, asphalt around the facility with walk-ways.
“There were obvious delays due to the supply chain and weather conditions, but we are very pleased with the overall outcome,” said Reaume.
Phase Two will include the building of a public restroom north of the ticket booth and the replacement of the remaining fence around the area, and will go out for bid sometime late May or early June.
“The signage really shows off the community’s Spartan Pride and it’s our signature,” Reaume states. A primary goal of the project was to ensure that the stadium is safe for our community members. The structure now includes a ramp for disabled spectators, as well as ADA-compliant seating with companion seating. The stadium also is equipped with technology access and a new sound system. “The surrounding neighbors will certainly be able to hear the score of our Spartan events.”
Reaume said that the final piece to complete the project will include updated color LED lighting which will allow for spectacular shows at any event, whether school or community-sponsored.
The local logging industry has been a huge plus for this project, as the district utilized excess timber dollars to pay for it, rather than going out for a bond or capital project levy. “If we didn’t have a debt for the building of the 2012 Forks High School Addition, we would NOT be able to capture the funds from local state logging in the school’s junior taxing district on DNR property,” Reaume said.
“Come join us in celebrating our students, coaches, teachers, staff, and community members who continue to support education-based extra-curricular activities,” said Reaume. The District would like to thank the QVSD Board of Directors, BLRB Architects, Interwest Construction Inc., AllPlay and other local subcontractors and community members who made this happen.
