Rosie Pye (Liane White), Felix Humble’s (Jon Preston) former girlfriend, tries to loosen up Felix as part of The Rainforest Players production of the adult comedy, Humble Boy, written by Charlotte Jones and directed by Lela Kriebel.

The Rainforest Players will be presenting their next play, “Humble Boy” the next two weekends in Forks at the Rainforest Art Center, 35 North Forks Ave. The performances are set for: Friday & Saturday, May 6 & 7 at 7:30pm; Sunday (matinee), May 8 at 2:00pm. The next weekend performances will be Friday & Saturday, May 14 & 15 at 7:30pm. Final performance is May 14th. There will be no pre-sale of tickets, but they will be available at the door prior to each performance. Ticket prices are: $7 for adults and $5 for students.

Humble boy is a play inspired by Hamlet. In fact there is nothing original about the play or its theme, but it’s a new play written by playwright Charlotte Jones and was first performed in London in the year 2001. The over-arching theme in Humble Boy is the relationship between mother and son, therefore Felix and Flora will be analyzed:

Felix in many regards acts as the modern day Hamlet; he has a brilliant but troubled mind, will not let go of the death of his father, and falls into depression and even contemplates suicide. His work involves finding the “mother” of all theories to “unite” all aspects of physics which “runs parallel to his inability to comprehend the union of opposites that was his parents’ marriage.”

Flora is the strong-willed and obvious leader of the Humble family. Jones runs a parallel of the hierarchy of bees in respect to Flora’s position as the household power. Flora acts as a queen bee that is surrounded by servants willing only to please her.

The main themes of this adult play are dysfunctional relationships, reversed social hierarchy, and humility. The audience can expect adult situations of language, and sexual innuendos.

The play is directed by long-time Forks resident and director Lela Kriebel. The cast includes Ellen Matheny, Lynne Murphy, Jon Preston, Steve Kriebel, Liane White and Gerry Morris.
