The Rainforest Players want to buy the downtown lot where the Olympic Pharmacy used to stand.

While they’re at it, they also want to purchase the theatrical equipment required to replace their former stock that was lost when both the old Rainforest Arts Center and the former Olympic Pharmacy burned down in October 2012.

It’s all part of a plan to re-establish their presence in a new, improved and enlarged RAC.

The lot is listed by Forks Avenue Real Estate for sale at $74,500 and is owned by Alaska Financial Services.

The RFP members are submitting a grant application to the Benjamin Phillips Foundation for a portion of the purchase price. The remaining funds, said Rainforest Players board member Ellen Matheny, “will need to come from community contributions and proceeds from a small insurance policy held by the RAC Board.”

“The goal is to purchase the land and then gift it to the City of Forks for more flexibility in the construction of a multipurpose arts center,” said RFP treasurer Steve Kriebel. “In doing so, the RFP will strengthen its partnership with the City of Forks to assist them in the management of the new facility.”

Community contributions can be dropped off at First Federal in Forks where RFP also has set up a special account for the contributions. All contributions are tax deductible and receipts will be issued upon request.

“The RFP needs to raise the funds for the purchase of the lot very quickly,” said Warren Brown, co-lead of the RFP fundraising committee. “The City of Forks is currently looking for an architect to begin the process of designing the new Rainforest Art Center.”
