Forks’ 11th annual Relay For Life is just around the corner.

The annual cancer fundraiser begins at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, as teams begin walking the Forks High School track.

This year’s theme “Pirates of the Cure-ibbean—Digging for a Cure” includes a “Pirate Treasure Hunt” to guide participants around the track as they get information about cancer and how to survive in a healthy way, said Diane Edwards. Edwards said this year’s goal is to raise $35,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Treasure maps will be stamped at the team sites and completed maps can be traded in for prize “booty.”

The survivors’ lap will take place during opening ceremonies at 6 p.m.

With 34 sponsors, Forks has more than any other relay on the North Olympic Peninsula, Edwards said.

Festivities continue throughout the evening with live entertainment at the stadium, “Minute-to-win-it” games, fabulous food and more.

The luminaria ceremony will begin at 10 p.m. More than 500 luminarias will be lit at 10 p.m. to mark those who died of cancer.

Wish lanterns will be lit and sent into the night sky at 11 p.m. The walk continues throughout the night. A breakfast of biscuits and gravy opens Saturday morning’s activities.

Live entertainment, including pirate boat races around the track, continues throughout Saturday, with the final lap set for 11:30 a.m.
