Restore fishing opportunities at Lake Wentworth?

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is inviting public comments on 12 land conservation projects for potential funding that would benefit fish, wildlife and public access to the great outdoors.

Conservation projects proposed by the department range from restoring salmon habitat at the mouth of the Skagit River to expanding recreational access to grasslands in Columbia County. Descriptions of all 12 proposed projects are available at http://wdfw.wa.gov/lands/acquisitions/. The only project in Clallam County is one for Lake Wentworth.

The project description is a property donation focusing on water access to Wentworth Lake. This parcel will replace a fishing access site lost on this popular lake two years ago. After acquisition of the parcel, this lake will resume being planted with trout by WDFW.

This acquisition will restore fishing access to the only lake planted with trout on the northwest Olympic Peninsula.

The department will accept written comments through Monday, March 13, 2017.
