Richard “Mike” Marshall to be honored in 2024 4th parade

The 2024 Forks Old Fashioned 4th of July parade will proudly honor Mike Marshall as this year’s veteran and hometown hero. A respected member of the community, Mike will ride on the 4th of July float, accompanied by his wife, Michele, who is well-known for her dedicated work at the Beaver post office.

Born in Forks, Mike later attended school in Port Townsend before moving back to his hometown. In 1966, he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam in 1967 as part of the Army Artillery. After his military service, Mike returned to the West End and was employed for many years at MR Smith Mill, becoming a familiar face and valued worker.

Mike is a proud member of the VFW and Forks American Legion Post 106, where he volunteers his time to help manage the grounds around the Forks Aquatic Center. Mike’s commitment to community service is further exemplified by his participation in the Thursday morning coffee gatherings at the Post, where he is famous for bringing his delicious cakes and baked goods, much to the delight of his comrades.

The Forks Old Fashioned 4th of July parade is a cherished local tradition, and this year’s event promises to be even more special with the recognition of Mike.

Residents and visitors alike are invited to join the celebration and show their appreciation for Mike and all local heroes who continue to make Forks a wonderful place to live.
