Saturday, Dec. 19, is National Wreaths Across America Day

The Michael Trebert Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution volunteers supporting Wreaths Across America at Sequim View Cemetery have been working hard to ensure that the 577 service members buried there will indeed be honored this year with the placement of live balsam veterans’ wreaths.

This year ceremonies may look a little different as the national nonprofit is making every effort to meet CDC recommended safety guidelines while also adhering to state, local, and cemetery safety measures that have been implemented due to COVID-19.

At Sequim View Cemetery the following modifications have been made to maintain a safe and successful event. State and county guidelines with regards to face coverings, use of gloves, and safe social distancing while at the Wreaths Across America Day event will be adhered to while attending & participating in the outdoor event on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020.

Sequim WAA will start the ceremony with 30 seconds of silence, followed by four US Navy Growler Jets from NAS Whidbey Island flying over to further honor the fallen veterans.

*****(Be advised there will be a flyover of four Navy “Growler” jets at 9:02 am on Saturday, Dec. 19 over the Sequim View Cemetery from west to east at 1000 feet going 300 knots. This will cause some noise in the surrounding area, but only for a few minutes). The military ceremony will proceed with ceremonial wreath-laying from each branch of the US Armed Services by local dignitaries. The ceremony will be live-streamed on www.facebook.com/nwvrc @ 0900.

Registration is required to attend in-person to lay wreaths. You can register to volunteer at the SEQUIM website: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/WA0153.

Judy Tordini, Sequim WAA Location Coordinator states, “we are so grateful to the good people of this great nation for participating in the 1st Wreaths Across America in Sequim to continue the mission of Wreaths Across America to Remember, Honor and Teach”.

National Wreaths Across America Day is a free, non-political event, that is usually open to all people, but this year each individual location will be abiding by all local and state safety guidelines and rules set forth by the participating cemetery locations, at which Wreaths Across America is a guest.
