Second Grade Garden Update

Earlier in the spring Mrs. Joynes’ second-grade class at Forks Elementary weeded some raised garden beds in the school garden and planted them with help from a Bogachiel Garden Club grant. Last week Joynes took photos of their progress and harvested some of the bounty.

She shared, “We picked rhubarb and I cooked it at home with a bit of sugar. Some of the students were brave enough to try some at school the next morning. We got one radish and so I sliced it into 16 pieces and they each got one slice along with a piece of leaf.”

She added, “We have spinach, lettuce, carrots, chives, and strawberries coming up!” During the chilly spring weather last month, she said they covered the beds with floating row cover.
