Series of burglaries being investigated

Homeowners, business owner report losses

Homes, vehicles parked at homes and a restaurant were broken into midweek.

Clallam County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Sgt. Brian King told the Forks Forum that two unlocked vehicles were burglarized in the Paige Road area off Bogachiel Way in Forks on Wednesday evening, Dec. 7, possibly early Thursday morning.

Both vehicles were parked in the driveway of their owner’s home.

King advised locking doors of vehicles parked outside homes to prevent easy entry by thieves prowling in a vehicle, and to avoid leaving valuables inside unattended vehicles.

He said a similar burglary incident happened, also on Wednesday night, in the Valley View neighborhood, off Bogachiel Way. King said a family returned home about midnight and found a man prowling inside their garage. The family had left the garage door open, but the robber had turned on a light and was visible in the garage, he said. Some family members were reported to be at home at the time of the burglary.

The burglary suspect fled upon the arrival of the family and ran past their car, nearly missing an open door hit. He ran into nearby wood and hasn’t been located.

The man left items stolen from another home inside the garage, which helped tie the crime to another nearby burglary.

King said there has yet been no arrest related to the burglary. However, he said family members got a good look at the man and pointed him out in a photo lineup.

The burglar and possible accomplices, were looking for a quick grab of items, King reported. There was no damage to the vehicles, no stereos pulled out of the vehicles, he said.

Also on Wednesday night, possibly Tuesday night, the Smoke House restaurant located just east of the State Route 110 highway – LaPush Road turnoff, was burglarized, King said. A number of items were stolen from the shut-down restaurant including television sets and a supply of liquor.
