For the first time since sometime in the 1990s the Forks Middle School seventh-grade basketball team went undefeated. Coach Lex Prose says that considering most of the teams they played had so many more players to draw from, the 10-game winning streak of the group is quite an accomplishment.
The Forks Middle Schoolers beat Port Angeles and Port Townsend three times and Sequim and Chimacum two times. Prose was proud of the way all 10 players on the team improved through the season and even a few games when they were down they didn’t get discouraged and came back to win.
He added that he could go on for days bragging on the group. He said "They were just incredible, the dedication from both the kids and the parents was outstanding, everyone kept good grades and I was so proud, there was just no quit in them."
Prose also thanks his employer the City of Forks, his fellow employees and Mayor Bryon Monohon for allowing him the extra time he sometimes needed holding practices and traveling to games.
There are no playoffs scheduled but Prose said they plan to do something special for the team. As far as what the future holds Prose feels if this group stays together the sky is the limit for future high school basketball greatness. Prose also had help from Wayne Daman who also gave of his time as a coach for the team.
