At about 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, Clallam County Fire District #1 was dispatched after receiving a report of a fire burning on the hillside above the Rainforest Mobile Home Park, near the south entrance to Forks. After arriving on scene CCFD #1 was aided by Department of Natural Resources.
DNR arrived with two engines and 2 inmate crews and proceeded to knock down the approximately 1/4 acre blaze that was nearing standing timber.
According to Bryan Suslick, with the DNR, the fire was stopped and today, Aug. 3, a 10 person inmate crew was mopping up and will continue to patrol the area in case it was to reignite.
Suslick said the fire cause is under investigation.
