Forks turned out to celebrate its champions last Wednesday, Aug. 21.
Coming off its championships in the state and regional rounds of Babe Ruth softball, the Forks 10U team received a hero’s welcome as it rode down Forks Avenue in an antique fire truck.
Escorted by Forks police, the young squad rode past friends, family and fans on its way to a celebration picnic at Tillicum Park.
The team crushed its opposition 126-12 in a 12-game win streak in the state and regional tourneys.
In the Othello state tournament, the team captured the championship with a 3-0 win over Hoquiam.
The champs followed up the next week by outscoring foes 41-9 in the regional round at Meridian, Idaho. Again, Hoquiam was the victim of the buzz saw Forks squad, losing 8-2 in the final round after falling 7-4 in the regional’s opening round.
The Forks City Council recognized the team at its Aug. 12 meeting with an official proclamation that declared last Wednesday in the girls’ honor.
The lucky 13 members of the team were Emily Adams, Alaina Baker, Kierra Brandt, Madison Davis, Sydney Henderson, Kray Horton, Brenna King, Natalie Lausche, Chloe Leverington, Jayden Olson, Rian Peters, Aspen Rondeau and Nicole Winger.
