Stamp Out Hunger drive set for May 12

Forks Post Office carriers collecting non-perishable food

This year the Forks Post Office is taking part in the 20th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive. The one-day Stamp Out Hunger food drive is the largest of its kind in the nation and set for Saturday, May 12.

Last year letter carriers from across the nation collected 70.2 million pounds of food for distribution to those in need.

To contributed to the Forks Post Office’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive, the public is asked to leave non-perishable food in a bag by their mailbox on May 12. Postal carriers will then collect and distribute food collected to the Forks Food Bank.

Postal customer’s can also drop off non-perishable food at the Forks Post Office during the week prior to May 12.

Since 2005 the Forks Post Office has collected approximately 4600 pounds of non-perishable food.

“Last year food donations were at an all time low,” said Laura Huling from the Forks Post Office. “We are hoping to bring public awareness to this event and double the amount of food gathered last year. Thank you for your support.”
