The Clallam County Auditor’s Office, Elections Division, released next-to-final vote counts on Thursday morning, Nov. 10. The final vote tally is scheduled to be released on Monday, Nov. 14 following the three-day Veterans Day weekend. The elections office reported that 21,393 ballots have been counted countywide, with about 5,000 ballots left to count. So far, the votes counted equal a 46.78 percent voter turnout. The final turnout is expected to be about 58 percent of registered voters.

In the much-publicized Clallam County-wide Commissioner District No. 1 race Republican Jim McEntire continues to lead his Democrat opponent Linda Barnfather by about four percentage points with about 20 percent of the ballots left to be tallied.

Across the county McEntire has 10,566 votes or 51.93 percent of the vote, with Barnfather receiving 9,781 votes for 48.07 percent of the vote.

West End voters are helping McEntire keep his lead over Barnfather. In the Beaver Precinct McEntire received 133 votes to Barnfather’s 42. Bogachiel Precinct voters gave the Republican 58 votes to Barnfather’s 41. The two candidates are tied in Clallam Bay, 53 even. Quileute Precinct voter supported McEntire 60 to 47, and in Sappho Precinct 54 to 34. In the five Forks precincts, McEntire has a commanding lead, 242 to 145, or 63 percent to 37 percent.

Barnfather does lead in the Seiku Precinct. 51 to 49.

Forks City Council Position No. 1 – Juanita Weissenfels with 249 (64.34 percent of vote) leads Giancarlo Buonpane who has 138 votes. Incumbent Councilman Kevin Hinchens ran unopposed for Position No. 4, as did incumbent Councilman Mike Breidenbach, who will continue to be the Position No. 5 councilman.

Quillayute Valley School District Board Member Dave Dickson retains his District No. 1 seat, running unopposed, as did District No. 3 Board Member Bill Rhode, and District No. 5 Boardmember Starla Daman.

West End voters joined voters statewide in passing Initiative Measure 1183, which ends the practice of selling liquor at state stores, a program begun in the Prohibition Days.The vote tally so far in the five Forks precincts is running 234 for, 179 against.

The certification date for the election is Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Cape Flattery School District Director District No. 2 candidate Gregory Colfax ran unopposed, as did Director District No. 4 candidate Donald Baker, and Tracey Rascon, who ran unopposed for the Director District No. 5 position.
