Volunteer Recruitment Open for Makah Tribe’s 2025 Green Crab Trapping Season

The Makah Tribe is excited to announce that volunteer recruitment is now open for the 2025 green crab trapping season. This is a unique opportunity for individuals interested in hands-on conservation work to help protect the reservation’s coastal ecosystems.

Volunteers play a crucial role in studying and mitigating invasive European green crab populations, which pose a significant threat to local marine habitats. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to work outdoors, navigate rugged and sometimes slippery terrain, and contribute to meaningful ecological efforts.

Participants will gain firsthand experience in fieldwork, learn about invasive species management, and make a direct impact on coastal preservation. The trapping process involves setting and retrieving traps, collecting data, and ensuring that invasive green crabs are properly managed.
