The annual RainFest Celebration is happening this weekend in Forks, signaling the arrival of warm weather and a summertime of local fun events.
Look for a schedule of events inside this week’s Forks Forum. A highlight of RainFest is the showing of the nationally-known “Supper Quilt” by the Piecemakers quilting club and the visit of its Texas-based creator.
The West End Thunder drag racing club has scheduled its first race of the summer season for the weekend of Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 at Forks Municipal Airport. The decision to the schedule the races came recently following tentative approval from the Federal Aviation Administration for the five-weekend series planned for this summer. Long-term approval for upcoming years is in the works with the help of the City of Forks.
Forks Chamber of Commerce Promotions Manager Lissy Andros provided a list of Forks Old Fashioned Fourth of July events for 2012. As the Fourth falls on a Wednesday this year the events are being split up. The weekend prior to the Fourth look for the arts & crafts show, the horseshoe and cribbage tournaments, the frog jump and kiddie playday. On the Fourth the parade, the Lions Club Salmon Bake, the Demo Derby and fireworks show are being held. On Friday evening, July 6 downtown merchants are holding their fun Moonlight Madness sale.
On July 5-8 the Washington State Babe Ruth Softball Tournament is being held in Forks.
