City of Forks water and sewer customers will see an increase on their Feb. 1, bills of 3 percent. This increase is the result of an ordinance passed by City Council in 2009, which calls for an annual adjustment in utility rates per the consumer price index.
This is the first time in five years the increase is over 2 percent The average residential bill will increase approximately $1.75 per month. A complete schedule of water and sewer rates is available on the City’s website www.forkswashington.org.
According to the Washington State Department of Health, it is critical that utility systems ensure their revenues cover the true cost of doing business. When rates aren’t increased periodically as expenses go up, water systems may need to raise rates dramatically to guarantee they can meet their operating needs. More importantly, this incremental increase helps to fund critical replacement and improvements in the utility infrastructure.
The City would like to remind customers that online bill payment services are available on their website.
Also, discounted rates are available for low-income senior citizens and disabled citizens.
Call or stop by the Water Department 360-374-5412 for an application and eligibility requirements.
