WDFW ISSUES LETTERS TO THREE PNP TRIBES THAT THEY NO LONGER HAVE THE CONSENT OF WDFW TO HUNT IN THE NORTHERN AREA OF THE TREATY OF OLYMPIA.

On January 13, 2015 WDFW sent letters to the three chairs of the Lower Elwha Klallam, Jamestown S’Klallam, and Port Gamble S’Klallam tribes advising them that there is insufficient information to justify exercise state enforcement discretion to not apply state law, when PNP tribes hunt outside of their ceded areas within the Dickey and Sol Duc GMUs.

This conclusion was reached after Historical Research Associates (HRA), WDFW’s independent contractor, completed its review of the anthropological material provided by the three PNP tribes, Makah, and Quileute.

Quileute Chairman Chas Woodruff shared, “We want to Thank everyone whose hard work contributed to the efforts to reach this conclusion.  We have not wavered from our original position and we appreciate all the support of those who stood with us.”
