The Wreaths Across America event is part of a national initiative to honor veterans of military service. Ceremonies took place at six cemeteries across the North Olympic Peninsula over the weekend. More than 2,400 wreaths were placed overall with 171 wreaths placed at the Forks Cemetery on Saturday afternoon.
It was asked when a wreath is placed on the grave, to say the veteran’s name aloud and thank them for their service. If appropriate, salute. Here Ray Winney, of American Legion Post 106, places a wreath on the grave of veteran Jerry Huggins. Photos Janet Hughes
Pastor Warren Johnson started and ended the ceremony with a prayer. Greta Christianson, with the Micheal Trebert Chapter of DAR, spoke about wreaths across America. Members of the Forks American Legion offered a 21-gun salute (3 guns 7 volleys) Commander Bubba Bolin gave the command. Meg Rasmussen played taps after. Those present helped place the wreaths.
